Why This Massive Ford SUV Recall Matters for Owners

Ford is again in the news due to a massive recall of over 2.3 million SUVs and crossovers from its lineup, as well as its luxury division Lincoln. In this case, the Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM) may overheat and shut down, causing the rearview camera to completely stop functioning. This is a big problem for drivers, especially when they reverse, since they will miss one of the most important features for visibility. Some of the popular vehicles involved in this recall include the 2021-2026 Ford Bronco and 2021-2024 Ford Edge. At this moment, Ford is still working on software to repair this problem, and no final repair date has been determined.

The third recall concerns the front windshield wiper motor and involves more than 604,000 vehicles. In this case, a misaligned internal terminal in the wiper motor assembly may cause poor electrical connection, which may eventually cause the windshield wiper to stop functioning completely. This is a big problem for drivers, especially when driving in rain, fog, or dusty road conditions, since visibility is already reduced. Unlike the previous recalls, this one cannot be fixed using software and will thus require a physical parts replacement.

The vehicles included in this recall are spread out over several model years, roughly from 2020 to 2026, and include models like the Ford Escape, Explorer, Bronco, Edge, and Lincoln Corsair and Aviator.
