- Volkswagen will be working together with Max Kruse Racing on developing a racing version of the Golf R for participation in the 24h Nürburgring event, which takes place in 2027.
- Golf R 24H can be called the test version of the car which will be used later on in the competition, however, VW has failed to give us any info regarding the technology that will be implemented into the racer.
- The race car is set to arrive on the 25th anniversary of the “R” badge, which debuted with the 2002 VW Golf R32.
Volkswagen is getting set to bring the Golf R to the tracks. Volkswagen is partnering up with Max Kruse Racing to develop a racing version of the Golf R hot hatch, although the actual car will not see action on the tracks until next year.

The Golf R 24H provides a first look at how the final track-focused Golf R may end up looking like. It has a huge front bumper, extremely wide fenders compared to the standard hatchback, and a spoiler that could double as a lunchbox.
Although both firms are busy working on the actual race car, sadly Volkswagen hasn’t made up its mind about sharing more information regarding the race car’s technical specifications yet. One thing we’re certain about though, is that it’ll come with all-wheel drive, because well—it’s a Golf R. What class do you think it’ll race in?

As suggested by its name, the race car following the Golf R 24H will indeed take part in the Nürburgring 24 Hours but only during next year’s race because the actual race car is scheduled to debut in the 2027 Nürburgring 24 Hours event as part of the celebration of 25 years of the Volkswagen “R” designation starting with the Golf R32 of 2002.
