Mercedes-AMG CLE Mythos Loses More Disguise Ahead of Its Debut

Further images of the elusive Mercedes-AMG ‘Mythos’ CLE have been revealed, giving more insight into the track-oriented coupe’s design. So far, Mercedes is giving us very little info on this car, but all it has revealed is that this car is “taking the CLE coupe concept several steps further”.

It is yet to be seen whether or not this limited edition Mythos is indeed the car that gets the . But if it is, there is a good chance that this is our first glimpse of the AMG variant of the brand new 4-liter flat-plane crank V8 engine, which was recently tested in the new Mercedes S-class.

As you can see in the first pictures, the prototype had a mule camouflaged by snow and covered in lots of camouflage. Even though the aggressive widened arches on the front and rear were evident, the bumpers were ‘mule’ design and thus did not represent what the car would be like. The following pictures give us much more insight.

In the previous test mule, there was a standard Panamericana grille design, which extended to the width of the car. In the new test vehicle, we see that the bumpers have been designed and appear almost ready for production. On the front, there is the famous grille design, but it extends further down, with two intake grilles on either side of the grill. Below the headlights are larger grills for cooling of the bigger brakes.

The widened front arches also have pressure-reducing vents similar to the 911 GT3 RS design. There is also the swan neck rear wing. Additionally, the rear bumper has a diffuser typical of a racecar. There are also cutouts for diagonally stacked exhausts.

The car that initiated this new line is the above-mentioned PureSpeed speedster, which was a roofless SL model powered by a 577bhp V8 engine and designed based on the AMG One hypercar. Mercedes-AMG aimed to produce only 250 examples as rivals for such cars as the McLaren Elva and Aston Martin V12 Speedster.

With the limited production of the Mythos models, it’s certain that the new model will be expensive. With the PureSpeed being a car priced at over £750,000, it’s likely that the CLE Mythos will also be priced at around that amount rather than the ordinary £80,000 CLE 53.
