Acura ZDX and Honda Prologue Recalled Over Safety Concern

The Prologue and ZDX feature plenty of General Motors parts and share the same platform with the Blazer EV and Lyriq. GM was a part of the investigation process, but as for now, it’s only Honda that announced the recall of Sharp-provided rear cameras, whereas we can’t help but wonder whether the GM cars will be affected by it too. We contacted GM to see if there were any plans for such a step, but no response came our way before publishing the article, so we’re planning to update it if any new information appears. We took a look at some Blazer EV forums and social media, and the backup camera complaints have become quite common recently.

No matter how GM ends up choosing, there will at least be a solution. Sharp has refined the surface treatment of the housing and its bonding, and the redesigned cameras have been on the production line since June 2025. This means that dealers will already have the fix by the time that you will be reading this letter, with customer notification letters set to come by July 6th. Of course, repairs during recalls are provided at no cost to customers. And although the replacement cameras for the Prologue and ZDX were warranted prior to the recall, customers who had to pay for their replacements should now seek a refund from Honda.

Recalls might be an expected part of life for some car owners. However, in the case of Honda, the impact tends to be a bit more harsh, given the reputation of quality associated with the company. Moreover, as though delivering a final slap across the face regarding its EV strategy, the latest recall issued by Honda concerns a camera installed in its upcoming EV vehicles, the 2024 and 2025 Honda Prologue and the 2024 Acura ZDX, at the same time Honda leaves its plans for the production of battery electric vehicles in the United States. The second question concerns the likelihood of a similar recall for the Chevrolet Blazer EV and Cadillac Lyriq models, which have many common aspects with the Prologue and ZDX.

This recall involves 44,199 Honda Prologue vehicles for the model years 2024 and 2025, along with 15,688 Acura ZDX vehicles for the 2024 model year, which is the only one the brand produced. The issue according to this recall stems from an inadequate pretreatment of the camera housing, which may result in the separation of the adhesive used to keep the camera together, leading to water damage of the electric components and resulting in an image that may appear blurred or not be visible at all.
