First Drive: The 2026 Porsche Cayenne Coupe Electric Delivers Shocking Performance

What this means for you is being attached to something similar to a sled with a few rockets fixed on its rear end. When the rockets launch, you shoot through a track at such insane speed that everything gets thrown around within your body. Congratulations, you have just experienced extreme acceleration as far as your body is able to withstand.

Acceleration in the Porsche Cayenne Coupe Electric is similar to that, except you don’t ride on anything; you just sit in a comfortable chair, press the pedal, and feel all the power the world’s best engineering could produce. There are just four wheels, a highway and, again, two electric engines that enable you to experience savage acceleration, which, unfortunately, you won’t want to share with anybody else.

It comes in three varieties, and each of them increases in menace as you go along. The standard engine has 435 horsepower and 615 lb-ft of torque. The S bumps those numbers up to 657 hp and 796 lb-ft. The big dog here is the Turbo, which packs a wallop at 1,139 hp and 1,106 lb-ft, though it’s called Turbo for no reason except the company’s refusal to name cars “Soul Reaver.” The basic version is somewhat less impressive, but it will hit 60 in 4.5 seconds, which is still very good. The Turbo gets that down to less than half, in around 2.3 seconds. That number’s probably conservative. Our tests are going to be very exciting.

That’s not all that the Cayenne Coupe Electric is capable of doing. It handles like a dream in every variant, moving with speed and grace and ease despite its weight and complexity. One option you can have, for instance, on S and Turbo models is Porsche Active Ride, a suspension system that can actually tilt into corners and eliminate both braking nose dive and acceleration squat. This thing is freakishly awesome.

Turn a corner, and this car gives you just that much grip and some, and it will change directions with such fluidity that an automobile of its size and weight shouldn’t be able to pull off. This is the case when it comes to ease of handling too. In some of our driving we encountered narrow streets with just one lane and a bit more—though in some places, even less—and it was simple to handle the large car in relation to oncoming traffic. Part of the credit here would have to go to the optional rear-wheel steering, making the coupe-UV easier to handle.

Obviously, the Coupe is nothing but a standard Cayenne Electric SUV in disguise – one that has definitely made us appreciate what it offers. Apparently, the bodywork of the Coupe is exclusive starting from the A-pillar rearwards, which includes the roofline inspired by the 911 and a unique windscreen as well. Those changes won’t affect the SUV’s insane driving skills in any way other than allowing you to show them off better and ensure that nobody taller than 5-foot-10 gets into the back seat without banging his/her head against the headliner. All the modes provide perfect steering characteristics – it is neither too heavy in Sport+ nor too light in Comfort mode. The suspension setup is simply breathtaking, even though all wheels come in sizes of 20 inches or more, with even more monstrous tires on the Turbo model.

On the autobahn, the Coupe held a very solid grip when going faster than the point at which you get arrested for speeding in the U.S. – we maxed out the speed limiter on both the S and the Turbo. Once at around 120 mph, flooring the throttle on the S causes it to run into its electronically limited top speed of 159 mph; on the other hand, the Turbo pushes you forcefully back against your seat before hitting an almost soft barrier at around 170 mph. The brake system is just as competent decelerating the electric coupe as its motor system is accelerating the coupe, with the brake system operated using a progressive and responsive brake pedal.

Electric versions of the Cayenne Coupes are similarly plush, which is understandable given that these cars cost over $116,000. They also go well beyond that mark in price when opting for the Turbo version with extras, yet there’s much that comes standard in these cars anyway. This includes a panoramic roof, a curved windshield-mounted display screen for the driver, Porsche’s responsive newest infotainment system, and a central screen that folds down into the cabin towards its bottom part.

As options, you’ll get a 2+1 seating arrangement adding space for five passengers, any paint color except white or black, electro-chromic capability for the roof panel, a Premium package offering extra luxury touches, and a Lightweight Sport package that reduces weight by up to 39 pounds. While it’s hard to believe given the massive size of the electric Cayenne Coupe, that’s actually true and the package offers several cool things, including a carbon roof instead of the glass roof, a microsuede lining called Race-Tex for both the roof panel and the steering wheel, unique 22-inch wheels, carbon fiber trim inside, performance tires, and, lastly, classic Porsche Pepita pattern upholstery for the seats.

On top of all that, the Cayenne Electric is able to do everything that an EV should. With its 113 kWh battery, it should be capable of running for up to 350 miles before it needs a recharge – the EPA hasn’t tested these particular models yet, but this number comes from Porsche. Moreover, the battery can be charged at up to 400 kW. Also, the Cayenne EVs have both NACS and J1772 ports, which will enable drivers to fast-charge their vehicles or charge their cars easily at home. Both of those ports are located behind motorized doors, which are pretty amazing.

Furthermore, the Cayenne Electric has been optimized for use with Porsche’s wireless induction charging systems. This system requires installing a charging plate on the floor of the owner’s garage; it only needs parking over that plate in order to receive 11 kW power overnight at a 90 percent efficiency rate. Worried about Fluffy? Don’t worry, as the charger uses motion and object detection sensors to stop automatically.
