Due to be unveiled later this year, the new BMW M2 xDrive for 2027 will serve the purpose of offering customers who have been craving such a feature the all-year round performance of driving a car that can perform. In order not to impair the performance of the agile car with the front axle drive, an electronically controlled multiplate clutch has been used in the transfer case, which distributes engine power evenly between the axles. However, it is rear-wheel biased, as the power goes to both wheels during regular operation only. After detecting sufficient slipping, the M xDrive system starts sending the power to the front wheels, BMW claims.
The Active M Differential, M-tronic Traction control and Dynamic Stability Control software will also come into action. Altogether, BMW says, they adapt to guarantee the expected performance from the M2 xDrive and ensure increased stability and traction at the same time.

For the fans out there that want pure rear-wheel-drive fun on track or even on general driving, this is some excellent news for them because they are able to achieve this via the M Setup menu. The driver is able to set up the M2 xDrive car to operate in a rear-wheel drive format without the activation of any stability control, thereby channeling all of its power into the rear of the vehicle with a little bit of throttle oversteer. This is among the many features that the driver can adjust on the M xDrive system.
Well, perhaps one disappointment among all this great news is that the new M2 xDrive comes only with the eight-speed M Steptronic transmission made by BMW. Nothing is wrong with it, but now customers would not be able to choose the car with a manual gearbox and AWD.
The powerful engine, the Steptronic transmission, and the AWD will make the new M2 xDrive model reach 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds, which is faster by about 0.3 second compared to the rear-wheel-drive model due to the better traction and an extra set of driving wheels. The top speed of the new model is 155 mph on average while the M Driver’s Package can allow for a speed limit of 177 mph.
In addition, the standard wheel sizes for the front wheels include 19×9.5 inches and 20×10.5 inches for the rear ones. There are options of installing track-specific tires too. As for the brakes, there are six-piston front calipers and single-piston rear calipers with M compound pads and rotors.
It is planned that the production of the 2027 BMW M2 xDrive model would begin in August 2026, and the vehicle would then be exported from BMW San Luis Potosí in Mexico for $74,950.
