The global electric vehicle market is always changing as brands tweak their strategies. Now, Chinese car maker BYD is revving up with a brand-new model, the Dolphin G. Unlike their past tweaks for export, this car is the first built specifically for Europeans, from the wheels up. They’re aiming to nab a larger slice of the big European market with this tailored approach.
Plus, they’re setting the stage closer to where it’ll be sold. BYD is building the Dolphin G at a shiny new plant in Szeged, Hungary. This makes it one of the first rides off that line. Soon enough, we’ll know more about the bottom line too. This month, BYD will spill the beans on pricing. After that, folks can get their hands on the vehicle when customer deliveries start this fall in 2026.

The Dolphin G is 4,160 mm long and 1,825 mm wide – 130 mm shorter but 55 mm wider than the battery-powered European version of the standard Dolphin. It has a pair of thin headlights and an active air intake system. The front bumper includes two dedicated airflows for better efficiency, and its side profile shows semi-hidden door handles and darkened D-pillars.
This makes the car look great for city driving, able to fit into small spots easily. Official exterior shots highlight its sleek design, but some recent spy pics from China actually peeked inside the vehicle for the first time. What you see inside is a super clean, minimalist design. There’s a huge floating touchscreen right in the middle of the dashboard and a tiny LCD instrument panel up front, just beyond the steering wheel. Even the gear shifter’s been tucked away behind the wheel, keeping the whole dash area looking neat and uncluttered.

Drivers have two Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery choices based on their daily driving. The smaller pack is 7.8 kWh, and the bigger one is 18 kWh, which lets you zip around town emission-free. Once that battery gets drained, a gas engine takes over for those longer road trips.
The brand’s newest hatchback hits markets during a major international expansion for the Chinese maker. As the China EV DataTracker shows, their overseas sales shot up by 70.8%, totaling 135,098 vehicles compared to last year. They want the Dolphin G to fuel this sales boost in Europe. It could make things tricky for traditional Euro car companies if this new model has a really competitive price point when released this June.
