2027 Lexus TZ First Look – Lexus Enters the 3-Row EV SUV Battle

The Lexus TZ, which debuted in 2027, is Toyota’s most recent offering. This is the company’s first venture into this segment and does so by introducing an SUV that boasts an impressive estimated range of 300 miles. It competes with the Rivian R1S, Cadillac Vistiq, and Volvo EX90.

The TZ is the production version of the Driving Lounge Concept that aimed to build an open and relaxed interior for a car designed to remain enjoyable to drive. Electric powertrains will be able to provide that experience.

Standard across all trims is the availability of all-wheel drive. Optional rear steering will prove advantageous when maneuvering bigger cars while also providing improved handling. Available wheel sizes include 20 or 22 inches. The car relies on Toyota’s famous TNGA platform.

Energy storage is available in two types of lithium-ion battery packs: 77.0 kWh and 95.8 kWh. Additional sound insulation is used to prevent road noise since there is nothing like an engine to mask it.

As indicated by the mechanically related Highlander, the lower end TZ could have an output of 338 hp and 323 lb-ft torque to make it accelerate to 60 mph in 6.0 seconds. However, at the high end, it can copy its twin to the Highlander—Subaru Getaway—whose 420-hp system enables it to go from 0 to 60 mph within 5.0 seconds.

There are five drive modes: Normal, Sport, Eco, Range, and Rear Comfort that prevents people sitting at the back from becoming nauseated. Deceleration modes are available in five types while using regenerative braking system. The Active Sound Control provides artificial sound effects during acceleration and deceleration, though it can probably be disabled.

Inside, the vehicle is furnished with eco-friendly interior trim, including forged bamboo and bio-based microsuedes, and offers a wide-open sensation through a thin instrument panel as well as thin seats. The wide space in the cabin is further enhanced by a low floor and a long wheelbase, in addition to the panoramic roof which extends across all three rows, offers power sunshades, and can be operated.

For passengers seating on the first and second-row captain’s chair seats, both heating and cooling seats have been provided. The front-row passenger has access to power ottomans which provide stretching space, marking the first use of power ottomans in any Lexus vehicle. The third-row seats are cushioned sofa style and access to them is provided using flush seat rails and one-touch operation of the second-row seats. There is also a detachable rear console that uses a two-level system of trays and provides access to the rear end of the SUV.

The modern cars consist of screens only. Indeed, the TZ has an advanced infotainment platform from Lexus designed for what the company calls a ‘deep multimedia experience’ based on 5G connection, high-speed computer operation, widget-based customization, and the Lexus voice assistant. This system is compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The TZ also has an impressive 21-speaker Mark Levinson audio system.

As for the safety equipment of the car, the new model has Lexus Safety System 4.0 equipped with all necessary functions in order to assist in accelerating, steering, braking, lane staying, navigating traffic, and avoiding a crash through warnings or driver-less intervention.

In terms of charging, Lexus offers the very first 2-in-1 charger that has both AC and DC chargers together with a sliding lid covering them. In case of U.S. edition, the new vehicle features NACS plug capable of using Tesla’s superchargers.
