2027 Lexus TZ First Look: Lexus Takes On the Three-Row EV Market

Lexus TZ is the newest addition to the Toyota-owned luxury brand. It is the first attempt from Lexus in this segment, and it comes with an SUV that boasts an estimated range of 300 miles. It competes with Rivian R1S, Cadillac Vistiq, and Volvo EX90.

The Lexus TZ is the production version of the Driving Lounge Concept, which was based on the idea of designing a comfortable interior in a car designed to be driven in fun. The torque coming from electric motors will ensure that.

All versions of the Lexus TZ come with all-wheel drive system standard. Rear-wheel steering is optional and will not only help when maneuvering large cars but will improve driving dynamics. Buyers will be able to select 20- or 22-inch wheels. The car is built on the famous TNGA platform used by many Toyota and Lexus models.

The choice of lithium-ion battery packs for energy storage includes two variants: 77.0 kWh and 95.8 kWh. Additional insulation is used to reduce the level of road noise that would have been muffled by the engine otherwise.

Judging by mechanically related Highlander, the TZ should produce around 338 hp and 323 lb-ft of torque in order to provide an estimated acceleration to 60 mph in about 6.0 seconds. The high-end variant could match the power of the Subaru Getaway – its mechanical twin that uses the same engine as the Highlander – namely, a 420-hp one that accelerates to 60 mph in less than 5.0 seconds.

The modes of operation will include Normal, Sport, Eco, Range, and Rear Comfort, with the latter mode being aimed at reducing discomfort in the back seats. The regenerative braking comes with five levels of deceleration. Active Sound Control creates artificial sound at acceleration and deceleration, although it is presumably possible to deactivate it.

Inside, Lexus has used sustainable materials such as forged bamboo and bio-based microsuedes and gives a spacious look to the cabin through a thin instrument panel and seats. The spaciousness in the cabin is further enhanced by the low floor and long wheelbase, and even by a panoramic roof which extends over all the three rows and has a power sunshade along with the feature of being openable.

The occupants in the front and second row captain’s chair seats enjoy cooling along with the heating of seats and power ottomans to relax, which is for the first time being offered by Lexus. The third row seats have soft cushions similar to those in sofas and their access becomes easy through flush seat rails and a one touch function for the movement of second row seats. The rear console has a two tier tray system and it is removable for walking to the back end of the SUV.

Vehicles of today revolve around the screens. The TZ comes with a new generation infotainment system provided by Lexus for its immersive multimedia experience with 5G connection, increased computing power, customizable widgets, and the Lexus voice assistant. The vehicle is equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support. The TZ comes with a 21-speaker audio system from Mark Levinson.

The safety aspect is covered by the Lexus Safety System 4.0 with all necessary features for accelerating, steering, braking, maintaining lanes, navigating through the traffic in order to avoid a collision. The system warns drivers about potential dangers or even intervenes in the process if the driver does not take action.

Lexus, on the other hand, is coming up with a unique 2-in-1 charging port where both AC and DC plugs are located together with a slide cover. In America, Lexus comes with NACS port meaning it can access Tesla Supercharger network.
