BYD Auto Updates the Atto 3 with More Range and Advanced Technology

China-based carmaker BYD released the third-generation model of its bestselling compact crossover, called BYD Atto 3. The updated car features improved ranges, quicker recharging, as well as a new mechanical configuration designed with the same emphasis on affordability that attracted many people in the first place.

Under the brand’s local market name Yuan Plus, the car is sold in China. The model was released on May 21 and underwent several major technical updates under the hood. BYD upgraded the compact crossover to its new e-Platform 3.0 Evo, abandoning the older generation components.

The styling concept of the new car is based on the brand’s current styling direction known as the “Dragon Face.” The redesigned crossover has a flat design at the front end, slim headlights, and semi-camouflaged handles mounted on the doors. There is a full-width light bar at the rear side of the car, which has an illuminated woven design.

The measurements of the new car are as follows: a length of 4,665 mm, width of 1,895 mm, and height of 1,675 mm. The wheelbase of the car is 2,770 mm, providing enough room inside. In terms of storage solutions, there is a new 180 l front trunk equipped with the knock-to-open functionality, while the trunk space reaches 750 l.

The manufacturer is selling the new car in four unique trim options on the Chinese market. The starting price starts at RMB 119,900 (€14,200), while the cost of the top-end edition amounts to RMB 149,900 (€17,800). The affordable pricing strategy puts the Atto 3 into the budget category of electric vehicles.

There are some changes in terms of the drivetrain system of the car. Specifically, the third generation model is a rear-wheel drive automobile. The car uses only one electric motor installed on the rear axle with two different power ratings – 200 kW and 240 kW.

Interior changes also got considerable consideration in this upgrade. The interior features an enhanced central display controlled by upgraded software, a new steering wheel with two spokes, a head-up display, and gear lever installed in the steering column. A 50W wireless phone charging station is available too. Enhanced comfort includes ventilated and heated front seats, heated steering wheel, a 16-speaker audio system, and a cooled storage area.

Interior stowage compartments comprise uncommon elements such as a small compartment for storing figurines in the dash, drawers below the back seats, tissue compartment, and glasses box. There are nine different exteriors colors, including dual tones of blue, pink, or green.

The firm is also known to prioritize driver assistance systems. Higher trim variants are available with an option for an advanced driver assistance system utilizing LiDAR and 30 different sensing units. The system offers navigation assistance on highways and city roads along with a feature for automated parking.

The introduction of the new Atto 3 marks an important stage in the carmaker’s history. Data gathered by the China EV Data Tracker indicates that the sales figures of this particular model line were 5,111 units in April 2026, a 21.9% decrease from the previous month and a 58.4% decrease from the sales recorded in the same month last year. The particular model represented 3.4% of total brand sales for the month of April. Notwithstanding local difficulties, the Atto 3 has gained immense global popularity since its initial release in 2022, with a total of 1.1 million units sold internationally in 116 different countries.
