The Mercedes-AMG started accepting orders for its first all-electric performance car, AMG GT, which comes in two versions upon introduction. The expensive price of the car is attributed to the use of an advanced electric drivetrain that gives an outstanding level of performance. Specifically, Mercedes-AMG utilizes three cutting-edge axial-flux electric motors – one single motor located on the front axle and two motors on the rear axle. Straight-line acceleration is not the whole story since the car charges just as quickly as it drives. Thanks to the high-performance battery setup, it reaches a peak charging speed of 600 kW. Upon connection to an appropriate fast charger, it gains sufficient energy to increase its driving range by over 460 km within 10 minutes. The time required for the battery to be charged from 10% state of charge to 80% is only 11 minutes.
Moreover, some special functions were included in order to appeal to driving aficionados used to good old gasoline motors. Turning on the AMGFORCE S+ drive mode turns on a digital sound generator that replicates the unique engine noise of the classic AMG V8 motor. The car combines this sound generation with mechanical vibrations coming through the seat and the steering wheel. In addition, the car makes brief stops in power generation in order to mimic automatic gear shifts. Lastly, it features a classic digital design of the driver display screen.
