However, it’s now been almost three decades since another surprising entry among the BMW M models sets a new standard for the company’s Motorsport unit. Though not one of BMW’s greatest motorsports cars by either power or reputation, the 2026 M2 CS has managed to achieve impressive records while being tested. Some of the test results can be seen in the table below.
The base G87 BMW M2 with the eight-speed automatic is capable of going from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 3.6 seconds. With the CS package, the time decreases to 3.2 seconds, which is not record-breaking, but very good performance for a rear-wheel-drive sports car since among the five fastest times in a BMW M, only the M2 CS and M4 CSL do not have xDrive.

In the quarter-mile, the M2 CS also remains in the top five with a time of 11.2 seconds at 127.1 mph.

A braking distance under 100 feet from 60-0 mph is outstanding, and the M2 CS outperforms that mark to take joint first place in BMW’s lineup. The caveat is that this test vehicle came with $8,500 worth of carbon-ceramic brakes; the G87 M2 with regular brakes comes in a few feet back but still ranks in the top five.

This is not precisely an aspect that can be attributed to the measurement procedure, but because lightweighting was one of the most important aspects considered for the M2 CS, I thought it necessary to include this detail in my report. According to BMW, the M2 CS is 97 pounds lighter than the standard model M2. Furthermore, the carbon-ceramic brakes helped save another 40 pounds. Overall, it weighed only 3,699 pounds.
